Getting the Most Out of Your Apartment Balcony or Patio

If you’re lucky enough to have an apartment balcony or patio, you certainly want to make sure you’re making good use of that outdoor spot.

Any seasoned apartment renter knows that part of getting the most out of your apartment is using every square inch of space. If you’re lucky enough to have an apartment balcony or patio, you certainly want to make sure you’re making good use of that outdoor spot.

People can end up underestimating how useful an apartment balcony or patio can be. While your lease may have some limitations on what’s possible, an apartment balcony or patio can be as great as your imagination allows it to be. Give your property manager a call if you have to, but either way, with the nice weather we’ve been having, we have some ideas for how to squeeze some more utility out of your apartment balcony or patio.

An Exercise Space in Your Apartment Balcony

We’re all looking for more ways to be healthier and exercising is one piece of that puzzle. An apartment balcony can offer plenty of sunlight to get a light workout in. It’s the perfect way to wake up in the morning and while you might not have enough room for all kinds of heavy-duty weights, you can likely fit in a kettlebell or have plenty of room to do yoga and pilates.

Meditate Outdoors

Another way to spend more time focusing on your health outdoors is to practice meditation. Just put a plush yoga mat and a few plants on your balcony and you’ll find that whenever you need to collect yourself, whether that’s at the beginning or end of your day, you have the perfect space to do so. You might want to consider adding in herbs like lavender or chamomile to help create a more relaxing atmosphere. If meditation specifically isn’t your thing, try journaling to unwind instead.

An Outdoor Garden in Your Apartment Balcony

Even without a backyard, you can still get a garden going with the limited space you do have available. Just be mindful of any large, heavy plants, or raised garden beds that may be too heavy for your balcony. Instead, rely on fresh fruits, veggies, and herbs that are easy to grow and work well in pots or other containers that you can cover your balcony in. Your cooking will benefit from the addition of all of these fresh greens and fruits!

Cozy Relaxation Space

Don’t doubt the power of a classic patio setup. That means comfy patio chairs, a few outdoor lights, maybe even a citronella candle to keep the bugs away. Suddenly, your mornings, evenings, and afternoons spent outside are so much more cozy. Play some light, quiet music to relax to, read a book, or otherwise enjoy yourself while you’re outdoors and let your stresses melt away.

Your Outdoor Studio

Are you an artist who struggles to find inspiration? Consider moving your setup outside. Bring the easels, canvases, and any other art supplies you might work with outside (except for paints or clay that could get ruined by being left outdoors). Just put down a tarp to protect your patio or balcony floor and get ready to be inspired.
