DIY Apartment Decorating for Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is about being thankful for the things you own, and what better way to celebrate this idea than by creating your own decorations for your apartment?

Thanksgiving is coming in a few days, and if you are like us, you might be decorating already. While most home décor stores provide a beautiful variety of household items, we are big fans of DIY decorations in your apartment. Thanksgiving is about being thankful for the things you own, and what better way to celebrate this idea than by creating your own decorations? Read on for some fun ideas to help you get into the Thanksgiving spirit!

Focus on All Natural Elements

When we think about Thanksgiving, we immediately think of the natural elements to help decorate our homes, like the falling leaves, a cornucopia, and the bright colors. Most of the aspects you want to decorate with can be found in nature and at craft stores too. Our essential list has burlap, leaves, ribbons, and acorns. Stock up on these different elements and utilize them to help spruce up everything inside your home, from vases and candleholders to centerpieces and wreaths.

Change Your Color Scheme

The colors that will come to mind when thinking about the Thanksgiving season are orange, red, brown, and yellow. While you probably do not want to completely change out the entire color scheme of your apartment, you can then find a subtle, excellent way to incorporate these colors. We highly recommend swapping out things like towels, pillowcases, and wall art to help represent the holiday. Since these colors are vibrant and bright, a little can definitely go a long way.

Make a Thankful Wall in Your Apartment

Thanksgiving is about being thankful, and why should we wait around until the holiday itself to begin celebrating? A nice way to show gratitude all month long is by making a thankful wall. Clear out some space in your apartment, create a DIY sign and then fill the wall up with sticky notes. Each day, make sure you add a couple of sticky notes to your apartment wall and write down one thing you and your roommates are thankful for. At first, this challenge will be easy and a bit generic, and the notes will say something like “family, friends, food.” Once time progresses, you will have to look for very specific things to be thankful for, like your pets, apartment, and more. This will help give you a new appreciation for the little things in life you might overlook at times.
